Follow the Clues to track down the 8 crime scene boards hidden inside participating retailers. Each one reveals part of the mystery - scattered snacks, toppled displays, suspicious footprints and more.

Escape. Hide. Tell.

Although Australia is a safe country, attacks in crowded places could happen and we need to do what we can both to prevent and prepare for them.

In the unlikely event you face an attacker armed with a gun, knife or similar weapon, it is important to be prepared to react quickly.

You need to remember three words:

ESCAPE. HIDE. TELL.

ESCAPE – move away from danger as quickly and quietly as possible and encourage others to do the same, but only if it's safe to do so.

HIDE – stay out of sight and silence your mobile phone.

TELL – call Emergency Services on Triple Zero (000) when it is safe.

All situations are different. You will need to make quick decisions during an attack and be prepared to change your plan. Remembering ESCAPE. HIDE. TELL. will help you decide what to do. We are providing this advice, so you are prepared if there is an incident, not because we are expecting one.

You can report suspicious behaviour anonymously via the National Security Hotline by calling 1800 123 400.

Life-threatening situations should be reported to the police by calling Triple Zero (000).

MARCH PROGRAM: MINITOWN WITH NANNY BOPPINS

Join Nanny Boppins each Tuesday morning this year outside Big W at Marketown for a full hour of educational entertainment and fun. Through musical activities, games, discussion, story and craft the children will learn about new themes each week. Free to attend, perfect for 3-5yr olds, although appropriate for under school aged children of all ages and their parents, grandparents or carers.

We’ll welcome in the new season of Autumn this week and see what exciting things that means for us to find in nature. What are some fun things we can do in the garden when the weather starts to cool down and what happens to the leaves on the trees? Enjoy crafting an Autumn Collage and read along with Nanny Boppins with a special Autumn storybook.

Garden Bloom

This week Nanny Boppins will explore things that grow in the garden, whether its a beautiful flower or things that we can eat. We will learn how a seed turns into a plant and use our senses as we touch fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden and smell fresh herbs. Pot your seeds at the craft table with your little one and watch over the month to see them grow.

Join Nanny Boppins as we go on a nature walk through our Mini Town session today. See if you can identify the many insects. Have fun exploring through fun activities and a butterfly craft. The story this week will be “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”

Little Hands Wise Hearts- An Intergenerational Journey

The first of its kind Intergenerational program has been commenced at Marketown Shopping Centre in collaboration with Montessori Academy and Anglican Care Newcastle.

Nine residents from Scenic Lodge Merewether attend this session with pre-schoolers from Montessori Academy for a five week program.

Each Thursday, eight to nine Scenic Lodge residents are brought to Marketown Shopping Centre to partake in a fun morning of play and learning with twenty to twenty-five children from Montessori Academy who are a tenant within Marketown.

Each week, the residents arrive at 10AM for morning tea provided by Marketown Shopping Centre before the children join them at 10:30AM for play, stories, and songs. The eight to nine residents who attend are aged between 84 and 95 years old and engage with children 3 to 5 years old.

Many of these residents don’t have family of their own or don’t often see their children who are also senior citizens.

Montessori Academy Nominated Supervisor Vicky Gilbert and her staff have put together the weekly program that incorporates craft stations, puzzles, stories and songs. The program is designed to encourage both the children and the senior residents to engage in the activity.

The memories and lessons from these visits will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on both the children and the residents, demonstrating the power of intergenerational connections.

During the mini session Uncle Perry will;

Play Traditional and contemporary solo didgeridoo sounds and rhythms.
demonstrate how we make animal sounds, rhythms and beats by using Aboriginal language while playing didgeridoo Traditional name ( Yidaki )
Educate where the didgeridoo originates from, Arnhem Land. What the didgeridoo is used for, what it is made of.
Introduce Traditional dance moves and encourage participation from children as they learn a dance called SPECIAL LAND

Perry Fuller is from Kamilaroi Country (Coonabarabran). He is an accomplished didgeridoo (yidaki) player who has been playing for over 10 years. Perry is very active in NAIDOC festivities in Newcastle and surrounding schools.
